There are two train stations at Narita Airport |
There are two terminals at Narita airport: - Terminal "1" - Terminal "2" The train station for terminal "1" is "Narita Airport Station". Trains from the central part of Tokyo stop at "Airport Terminal 2 Station" and then stop at "Narita Airport Station" which is the last station of the lines and so the trains do not go further from Narita Airport Terminal Station. There is a station named "Narita Station" which is not located at Narita Airport. Be careful not to get off at that station, especially when you are returning to Narita Airport from Tokyo by JR train. |

Airport: - JR - Keisei Two train stations are common for both lines. There is only one rail for JR and one rail for Keisei at Narita Airport Station and Airport Terminal 2 Station. Each rail is used for both directions from/to Tokyo. |
The Central part of Tokyo is called as "Toshin" in Japanese |
The word "Tokyo" is often used to indicate the central area of Tokyo which is called Toshin in Japanese. Most of the shopping areas, night life spots, museums, historical places, hotels as well as imperial palace are all located in Toshin. Although there is no official definition for "Toshin", but in general it refers to the area inside of the loop train line which is called Yamanote-sen of JR(Japan railway). It is marked by green circle in the above figure. The size of the loop line is approximately 6 km horizontally and 12 km vertically. |
The Four access means from Narita Airport to the Center of Tokyo |
There are four means of access from Narita Airport to the Center of Tokyo: trains, limousine buses, taxies and rental cars. Necessary to be mentioned that renting a car is not popular and therefore not recommended, because the central parts of Tokyo are too crowded to drive a car, especially for foreign visitors. Airport limousine bus may be the most suitable way for tourists, specialy if you have heavy luggages. Train is the best mean of transportation because not only it is less expensive but also much faster with fixed time tables. Train is quite suitable, if you want to make small adventure and see Japanese culture. Keisei train is highy recommended for a backpacker or a person who wants to make short & enjoyable adventure. Taxi is recommendable only when you do not mind about the cost or your company pays the expenses. the city but "Tokyo" station is
right in Tokyo. It is the biggest train terminal
in Japan from where many trains departs.
JR trains from the Narita Airport Station
and Airport Terminal 2 Station go to Tokyo
station and then go further to three directions: - Shinjuku - Yokohama - Omiya Yokohama & Omiya stations are out of Tokyo and have not been shown in the above figure. Bullet trains (so-called Shinkan-sen) also depart from Tokyo station. |
